Family Therapy in Islamabad
PRTS Clinic provides structured family therapy in Islamabad for parent and teenager conflict, joint family tension, and households where communication has quietly shut down.
Sessions are supervised by Dr. Uzma Masroor, consultant clinical psychologist with 28 years of experience, and run in person at G-8 Markaz and Bahria Enclave, or online, in English and Urdu, with whichever family members the work actually needs.
One House, Five Silences
Dinner happens in shifts now, so nobody has to sit at the same table.
Every conversation with your teenager ends at the same slammed door.
The children have learned to carry messages between two adults who are not speaking.
One person's mood decides the weather for the entire house.
Grandparents, parents, and children: three rulebooks running under one roof.
Everyone knows exactly which topics must never be mentioned.
The Family Sends One Person. We Treat the Room.
Most families arrive with one identified problem member, and it is usually the teenager. He is rude. She has stopped studying. He stays in his room. What decades of family therapy have shown, in clinic after clinic, is that the person carrying the symptom is very often not the source of it.
A child's behavior is frequently the smoke alarm of the house, not the fire.
That is not a polite way of blaming the parents. There is no villain in this work. There is a pattern that formed slowly, that everyone participates in, and that nobody chose. When the pattern changes, the smoke alarm goes quiet on its own. Families who understand this one idea walk out of the first session already lighter.
What Families Try vs What Family Therapy Does
| What families usually try | What family therapy does instead |
|---|---|
| Lecturing the problem child harder | Understanding what the behavior is signaling, then answering the signal |
| Elders issuing verdicts to end arguments | Every member genuinely heard, including the quiet ones |
| Keeping the peace by keeping silent | Naming the unspoken safely, with a professional referee in the room |
| Comparing the child to cousins who behave | Working with the actual child in front of you |
| Waiting for time to fix it | Patterns do not age out. They get practiced. Therapy interrupts the practice. |
Myth
Family therapy means airing the family's private matters and blaming the parents in front of a stranger.
Fact
Nobody gets blamed and nothing gets aired. Sessions are structured, respectful, and completely confidential. Parents routinely leave with more authority in the house, not less, because respected authority works better than feared authority. And elders, when they join, are treated as part of the solution, never put on trial.
What We Help Families Work Through
Parent and teenager conflict
Marks, phones, career choices, tone, respect: the daily battles and the war underneath them.
Joint family and in-law dynamics
Building one working household when the marriage has more stakeholders than members.
Sibling conflict and favoritism wounds
Including the old ones that everyone insists they are over.
One member's diagnosis affecting everyone
When a child's ADHD, autism, or emotional struggles reshape the whole house, the family needs support alongside the child. A structured psychological assessment in Islamabad often runs in parallel.
Grief, illness, and financial pressure
The events that bend a household out of shape, and the roles nobody agreed to but everyone took.
Separation and its aftermath
Helping children live in the reality that exists, instead of the crossfire.
Communication breakdown across generations
When love is present in the house but cannot find a working language.
How Family Therapy Works at PRTS Clinic

Do We All Have to Come?
No. Family therapy can begin with whoever is willing.
Sometimes that is both parents. Sometimes it is one exhausted mother. Change one part of a system and the system must respond. Teenagers who refuse to attend often agree later, once they notice the house getting quieter, and many prefer to be seen alone first, which we arrange.
Who attends each session is planned deliberately: it is a treatment decision, not an attendance register.
